How Relevant Is Book Expo America

New York City is Counting on Publishing and Writing Success

Wednesday through Sunday, May 27-31, 2009, at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City, one of the largest events in the book publishing industry will take place.

Book Expo America (BEA) will keep to its more than 103 year annual tradition and bring together thousands of seasoned and just-starting-out movers and shakers in the book business. An average number of over 25,000 people attend the event each year.

Famous Past Attendees and History

Previous event locations include Los Angeles, California, Washington, D. C. and Chicago, Illinois. Librarians, book publishers, editors, literary agents, writers and printers attend the annual event that is rich with booth after booth of information.

In prior years media moguls and bestselling writers such as Oprah Winfrey, Stephen King, Toni Morrison, David Irving, Madeleine Albright, Bill O’Reilly and Zane, have attended the expos.

In addition, more than 1,000 media persons have attended past expos. Major media outlets such as CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, The New York Times, Business Week, Newsweek, People, Time, The Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post have covered the event.

Events at This Year’s Expo

This year’s expo kicks off with a writer's conference followed by a series of “Big Ideas at BEA” conference sessions. The sessions start at 9:00 A.M. on Thursday. Following the “Big Ideas” sessions, there will be a press conference and a Chief Executive Officer panel. The first night closes with an opening night reception.

Authors, organizations and celebrities lined up to attend this year’s expo include Nicholas Sparks, Kathie Lee Gifford, Richard Russo, Tracy Kidder, Penguin Books, American Booksellers Association, Children’s Book Council, Scholastic, Inc. and Julie Andrews Edwards.

There will be a new book title showcase event this year. There will also be a International Rights Center which focuses on subsidiary rights, acquisitions, book packaging and television and film. The International Rights Center will be open Friday through Sunday.

Authors can take advantage of the Writer's Conference that will be held on Wednesday, May 27. Writer's Digest Magazine and BEA are co-sponsoring the conference. Keynote speaker will be Karin Slaughter, author of the book Triptych and Fractured. Authors are encouraged to bring copies of their books, fliers and business cards to the event.

Meet Your Favorite Author in Person

Book lovers can attend the event and meet their favorite writers in person and get signed copies of bestselling books. Pavilions are available for writers, editor and librarians to gain valuable advice and tips, ways to increase book sales and strengthen return on investment.

Registrations are currently being accepted for the event. Interested persons can register as an attendee or as an exhibitor. Prices are set for one-day and three-day passes.
