Book Review: Winter Games by John Lacombe
This International Thriller will Entertain in all Seasons

When 24-year-old Tim Sutton receives a mysterious comic book at the door of his humble, New Hampshire comic store, he is intrigued. But when he catches an out-of-place detail that few would notice, he is compelled to unlock the book's secret. What he discovers is a possible link to his missing brother, a genius like Tim, but one whose genius took him down a darker path.
International Intrigue
What Tim is led to discover takes him on an adventure he couldn't have imagined. Though Tim and his brother grew into two very different adults, they had always shared a close family bond, and Tim is determined to reconnect with his brother, especially as the coded book he receives seems to be a cry for help. With the aid of Jeff Hutchins, a disgraced FBI agent relegated to teaching at an elite private school, Tim journeys cross-country to meet an inner-city drug lord and a secret agent who must smuggle him into North Korea if he is to help his missing brother. However, once he gets there, things are not as they seemed.
Memorable Characters
In addition to the captivating plot, the characters in Lacombe's novel keep one reading. Lacombe keeps several main characters cycling in and out of the plot. Among these, the characters are as diverse as Tim Sutton, the humble comic store owner; Eric, Tim's lost, darker, genius brother; Jeff Hutchins, the disgraced FBI agent desperate to finish the case he was accused of botching; Percy Danielson, a gruff and determined CIA agent who wants to bring in the dangerous mind that is Eric Sutton; T.C. Watson, a successful Chicago drug lord; and an incredibly lethal, seemingly innocent rogue agent by the name of Sarah. These characters are each written with distinct personalities and backgrounds that make them engaging and make the reader want to know more.
Fast-Paced Adventure
Winter Games by John Lacombe is a fast-paced thriller for readers of all ages and types. Lacombe's plot and characters are believable, yet not predictable. This is a great book for entertainment or vacation reading. Chapter endings compel one to keep reading, and the novel's ending once again succeeds in turning the reader's expectations on their heads. The novel does leave open the possibility of a sequel, which hopefully will come soon.
