Eve Adams's The Garden of Eden

Eve Adam's The Garden of Eden, A Review

Jun 13, 2006 Leslie Poston

A review of Eve Adams's "The Garden of Eden", a glimpse into the secret lives of one small town. Eden, USA is described by one reviewer as a "parable of our time",

We enter this unlikely Eden riding shotgun with fresh young State Trooper Sam Neely, parked in the yard of an abandoned country schoolhouse. City slicker Sam, just out of officer's school, is in despair over his new assignment and hungers for the excitement of a city posting. Little does he know, the town of Eden, USA has plenty of excitement bubbling beneath its idyllic charm.

Enter the town banker, Ed Harris, his adulterous wife Anne and his soon-to-be former best friend Hayden, town Prosecuting Attorney. After finding his wife and best friend sleeping together one afternoon, Ed finds a solution to the problem that sets the town tongues wagging. Soon Trooper Neely is dragged into the mess by the town busybodies, gets laughed at by the town judge and meets the town's biggest bigot and bully - Sheriff's Deputy Delmar Clay.

Soon embroiled in the townspeople's dramas and conflicting loyalties, Trooper Neely finds Crystal and Diaond Ice while checking out one of many complaints - twin beauties who ease his mind about his fateful posting in Eden. With competition for Crystal and Diamond's affection coming from the unlikely place of a portly local science fiction author and the town mechanic, Trooper Neely must learn the ways of small town police work and small town courtship fast or lose his new love's affection.

Unlikely friendships are formed, drunks and busybodies find redemption in love and friendship, tongues wag over the attorney with "two wives", high school romance nearly dies among the flames of blackmail and the town's new preacher - a single mother and former alcoholic - gives sound advice and a listening ear throughout to the townfolk. The Garden of Eden offers a unique glimpse into the value of loyalty, love, friendship and second chances.
