Fearless Fourteen by Janet EvanovichThe Latest Stephanie Plum Mystery NovelJul 19, 2008 Julie Refnov Mortensen
Evanovich once again introduces Stephanie Plum to the craziest criminals New Jersey has to offer.
In Evanovich’ 14th book in the series about Stephanie Plum, an always in the wrong place at the wrong time, New Jersey bounty hunter, Plum finds herself smack in the middle of murder, potato guns, treasure hunters, bank robbers and stalkers, all while babysitting a 61-year-old pop singer. The PlotAn old bank robbery is brought back to everybody’s attention, when lead robber Dom Rizzi is released from jail. Dom is the only one, who knows where the money from the robbery is stashed, which leads the whole town on a treasure hunt for the nine million dollars that allegedly is hidden somewhere in the town of Trenton, New Jersey. At the same time the small Jersey suburb is graced with the presence of washed-up pop singer Brenda, who still at age 61 performs former hits at small town venues, while prancing her surgically altered body around on stage. As Rizzi’s accomplices turn up dead one by one and Rizzi’s sister mysteriously disappears, the pressure is on Plum and her, on again-off again, cop boyfriend Joe Morelli to solve the mystery of murder, missing money and kidnapping. Stephanie PlumPlum is a clumsy, cupcake eating, walking disaster most women can identify with on some level. She works for her cousin Vinnie, as a bonds enforcement agent with her sidekick Lula, a larger than life black woman. Plum can be seen driving the streets of Trenton in whatever addition of old, barely running vehicle she has acquired when her latest model blows up or burns down. Much to Plum's regret all her vehicles seem to end their days that way. When Plum isn't busy chasing criminals she spends the majority of her time juggling the tow hottest men in town. The MenJoe Morelli is the bad boy turned good and now a cop on the Trenton police force. He and Plum have an ongoing relationship, which mostly consist of pizza, beer and amazing sexual chemistry. Carlos Manoso a.k.a. Ranger is a hot Latino security expert, who Plum inevitably ends up working alongside on one level or another. In Fearless Fourteen Ranger and Plum team up to protect pop singer Brenda. Plum spends most of her time around Ranger fighting her attraction to the dark skinned hunk. Supporting CharactersEvery Stephanie Plum novel has new quirky characters and Fearless Fourteen is no exception. In Fearless Fourteen the reader is introduced to: The Stalker Gary, who believes his visions of disastrous events, like a giant pizza hitting the once famed Brenda in the head, has lead him to follow the pop singer around the country. Mario Rizzi is Dom Rizzi’s sister Loretta’s son. After Loretta’s disappearance Mario is put in the care of Morrelli and Plum. Mario only responds to the name Zook. Mooner a.k.a. Walter “MoonMan” Dunphy is the local stoner, who gets hired by Morelli to protect his house against intruding treasure hunters, which leads to the creation of The Homegrown Security team fully armed with PVC pipe guns and half-baked potatoes. Fearless Fourteen is an easy, fun read and as the cover of the book warns “Thrills, Chills and incontinence may result.” Janet EvanovichEvanovich is a #1 best selling author of the ongoing series about Stephanie Plum, twelve romance novels, the novels about Alexander Barnaby, a hot female NASCAR mechanic, and How I Write: Secrets of a Bestselling Author.
