Reading, Writing and High Heat

The art and discipline of reading and writing American Fiction when it is too hot to think.

This weekend's high temperatures chased me out of my currently un-airconditioned home office seeking relief. That in turn caused me to think about American Fiction authors over the centuries, and made me feel like a huge wuss for "caving' to the heat so quickly. After all, it was only 100 degrees and 96% humidity today!

You know that authors through out the years faced the same climate changes and challenges we do, but without the modern conveniences of air conditioning or high powered fans and exhaust vents - imagine being Mark Twain or William Faulkner slaving away over a masterpiece on a sweltering summer night in the South!

How do you stay focused on your reading and writing when it is just too hot to think (or in some places, too cold)? Write and let me know!
