Summer is here, and many of our favorite American Fiction authors are publishing new work just in time to take those novels to the beach and catch up on your reading while you work on your tan (or, for the more health conscious, while you sit under an umbrella, wrapped in a long sleeve terry cloth beach cover-up, slathered in SPF 45 lotion).
What should be on your list this summer? Let's take a look at what will be hitting the shelves.
1) Twelve Sharp by Janet Evanovich is hardly what could be termed an intellectual American novel, however; the twelvth book in her series on reluctant, accident prone PI Stephanie Plum promises more fun and more madcap adventures (and, more Ranger. Yum!).
2) The Hard Way by Lee Child continues the saga of character Jack Reacher in what should be another in a solid series of thrillers that have yet to disappoint.
3) Dance Macabre by Laurell K Hamilton should satisfy those of you who are hankering for a good vampire story now that Anne Rice has jumped the gothic ship for more sanctified pastures.
4) One Mississippi by Mark Childress is his poignant take on surviving high school, for the more literary minded summer reader. Childress was also author of the literary comedy noir novel Crazy in Alabama.
5) In The Dark Of The Night by John Saul should satisfy the summer cravings of the American Horror buffs in his ususual ghoulish fashion.
6) The Judas Field by Howard Bahr looks to be a unique, fictionalized tale of the Civil War, giving its readers a chance to get a glimpse of history through the eyes of a soldier's story.
Enjoy this short reading list for your summer hardcover book enjoyment, and look for the paperback reading recommendations next week.
